A PRIZE with Every DIME!

This banner is outstanding in its presentation and messaging.  Additionally, in contrast to most carnival banners that are too big to display, this one is the perfect size—big enough to make a statement, yet small enough to frame and handle.

For at least two reasons, we date this banner to between 1930 and 1940.  First, carnival banners were in their heyday during this time period.  And second, the prices included on this banner align with this time period (or very close thereto).  If this banner dates to 1930, then inflation adjusted, a dime would be equivalent to approximately $1.50 today.  Alternatively, if this banner dates to 1940, then inflation adjusted, a dime would be equivalent to approximately $1.83.  In another words, the prices included on the banner provide a data point, in which one can reverse engineer its age with a reasonable degree of certainty.

Conservation Process: This banner was hand sewn to cotton fabric, and both were hand sewn to a mounting board.  To prevent the black dye in the cotton fabric from seeping into the banner, it was first washed in a standard wash and then in a dye setting wash.  The banner is positioned behind Conservation Clear Acrylic (standard) or behind Optium Museum Acrylic (per request).

Frame: This offering is in our X-Large Distressed Black Frame.  However, it can be reframed and would look great using any one of our Large or X-Large Frames, which are shown in the final two images.  The pricing associated with the different framing options may vary.  Reframing of an offering may delay shipment by up to two weeks.

Condition: This banner exhibits age appropriate cracking throughout the painted overprint.  In other respects, it is in excellent condition.
